As ever, the funny little room was packed, and I think I passively smoked at least a mild respiratory problem’s worth of cigarettes, but it was worth it. Up first were , who played a second set later in the night. As ever, their partnership of memorable tunes and bizarre subject matter went down a treat and there was not a still foot in the house. Next up was a band I’d never seen before called , who were just incredible. The singer’s Ian Curtis-like intensity and powerful vocals made everyone really pay attention. Importantly, they had loads of excellent and interesting ideas, which convinced me that they are a band with the potential to do something truly brilliant.
The Chimps Last on the bill were five-piece indie kids The Beacon, whose quality song-writing and top-notch John Squire-esque guitar riffs from Danny Long were received with deservedly raucous applause. I spent their set, much like everyone, trying to sing along with words I didn’t know, and keeping one eye on the now ex-drummer who was, by self-proclamation, “nuts”. A huge, dinosaur-sized thankyou to Greg Oldfield and Splodge from The Chimps for organising the monthly event, and another to the audience who are always very lovely.

The Chimneys The Acorahs Greg: It was a really good night, and very hot! THE ACORAHS played after The Chimneys, they played really well, very tight and confident. A really interesting band. (Earthhum, a night of very diverse live music, is currently part funded by PRSF via Loose.
